All Cranes (No. 5-12) are available for work.
It is recommended that the Port's crane users/stevedores closely coordinate their crane orders with the Port's Berthing Office as early as possible to insure that users do not have delays in obtaining cranes for LO-LO operations. The Crane orders are submitted to Crane Management by the Port's Berthing Office prior to 2PM on a daily basis for the next day's operation.
The corrosion removal, repairs and NDT testing of critical structural areas of Cranes 4, 5 and 6 commenced in November 2007. This work is initially being performed to prepare the cranes for painting by a NACE/SSPC certifed contractor. As such, the work has been completed on Crane 4 and 5, and is nearing completion on Crane 6.
The contractor, GC Zarnas was awarded and signed the contract on March 23, 2008. GC Zarnas has been given the Notice to Proceed and as such, crane 4 has been removed from service for the painting work to commence.

Port of Miami Crane Management, Inc., (Crane Management) a company created to better serve the Port of Miami and its maritime community through efficient and cost effective maintenance and management of the Port's container handling cranes. As we transition to providing these crucial services to the Port, we continue to organize, implement new maintenance procedures and set new standards in providing these critical services to the Port and its community.
On October 1, 2005 we completed the third year of operation providing the Port of Miami with these critical services to improve crane reliability and throughput capacity. This was clearly seen by the Port achieving its one million TEU a-year-goal in 2003 and the reduction of overall crane downtime.
With the emphasis on proactive maintenance, and implementation of refurbishment programs, crane downtime with a few exceptions, continues to be lower than the previous year. Crane Management recorded 1.01% overall downtime in fiscal 2003 while in 2004 and 2005 we recorded 1.28% and 1.18%, respectively. While we recorded slightly higher downtime in 2004 than 2003, we noticeably rebounded with an approximate 8% reduction in 2005.
Since taking over the cane operation at the Port of Miami, Crane Management has continuously exceeded the 19,000 crane hour mark. In August 2004 and October 2004 we experienced the busiest and the second busiest month on record at the Port of Miami for crane usage.
For fiscal year 2006 (through March 2006), crane hours are lower than fiscal 2005. However, downtime has been lower and is resuming its downward trend as a result of the newly implemented maintenance procedures, significant repairs, our continuous aggressive refurbishment schedule and our staff's dedication to providing our customers with the required support.
